Towing hitch removable?

The frame on the X accommodates a 2" receiver component, which is removable and so far seems to be supplied to buyers with the other accessories in the car. You remove the rear plastic cover and install it, or remove it and put the cover back. If you order the tow package, the car comes equipped with the powered trailer port and trailer brake controller along with the software enhancements for towing and sway control. If you don't order either the tow package or accessory hitch option, then all you get is the plastic cover plate on the rear over the hitch attachment location and you can add the accessory hitch at a later date if you want. But it's not possible to go back and add in the trailer brake controller and associated software. Third party brake controllers could be installed just like any other vehicle, but they won't have the same level of integration within the car or its software system.

Removable

There's a small cover in the rear diffuser, remove it, attach the hitch (very quick operation) and you are ready to go. Reverse the process when you take the hitch out.
