Tesla to Kill 60kWh Battery Option

Tesla has decided to stop production of its most affordable Model S, announcing that the Model S 60 and 60D options would be eliminated to “simplify the ordering process.”

Tesla announced the decision in a newsletter to subscribers. The automaker built the 60kWh battery from 2012 to 2015, before it was replaced by the 70D. The 60kWh battery was reintroduced last year as a more affordable option.

Speculation among industry watchers is that Tesla eliminated the cheaper offering to make room for Tesla’s upcoming Model 3 cars, it’s most affordable model to date at $35,000.
