EV Revolution: Process Unstoppable?

Every year the number of eco-conscious drivers is increasing. It seems that electric mobility is about to become a phenomenon and a serious alternative to petrol cars. The majority of oil companies have realized that electric cars have become increasingly popular and stand to take a sizable share of new-car sales. British government officials have even banned petrol and diesel vehicles after 2040. In response to this, BMW decided to produce the electric Mini in Oxford. Moreover, all-electric versions of newly announced BMW X3 and near-autonomous crossover iNext will be represented in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Jaguar Land Rover plans to release in 2018 the I-PACE, its first all-electric car. Volvo has promised to build models with electrified powertrain from 2019. What to expect in 2020: Urus SUV – Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid, Ford’s fully electric SUV with a 300-mile range, and a release of new hybrid versions of of the F-150 pickup and Mustang.

Electric trucks are also widely available these days.

Pickups: Based in Indiana, Workhorse is going to bring a plug-in hybrid pickup truck with 80 miles of range to market in 2018. Bison is another electric pickup truck. It was revealed by Havelaar Canada, which wants to sell it in 2019. Representatives of Tesla says that they are also working on an electric pickup truck, expected after release of its Model Y CUV. So, we’ll see.

Vans: The Nissan e-NV200 electric van was recently modified by Voltia and was called Voltia Maxi. DHL built their own electric delivery van. The price of this vehicle turned out to be much cheaper, as it doesn’t need to be developed and produced.

Trucks: Wrightspeed developed a heavy-duty truck with 30 miles range on battery power and uses two electric motors that drive the rear wheels with the help of a two-speed gearbox. Nikola Motors’ truck will have a 325 kWh battery, 2,000 hp, 3700 lb-ft of torque and a range of 1,200.

Buses: Carbridge produces EV Buses used in Australia. Energy storage is a 324 kWh BYD iron phosphate battery. This bus makes up to 100 transfer journeys on a single charge with a range of 500 kilometres and a 70 passengers carrying capacity.

As we can see the era of electric cars is actively developing and we can observe a great competition between different carmakers that provide us with more effective solutions.
