‘Vector Maps’ Found in Recent Software Update

TMC member and Tesla hacker verygreen has discovered an update to Tesla’s map system. Code included in the 2017.44 software update enables “vector maps.”

The feature allows significantly more zoom for a “highly detailed” map view. Verygreen also said the maps operated “smoother.” The code is disabled by default, but screenshots captured by verygreen are below.

Tesla is devoting significant attention to maps as it improves it’s Autopilot efforts. Verygreen has been sharing map experiments revealed in the code for months, including differing approaches in markets around the world.
