Tesla Files Permit for Charging Station, Restaurant in Santa Monica

Tesla has filed a building permit for a Supercharger station and restaurant in the Los Angeles area.

TMC Member WalterB spotted the filing on the City of Santa Monica website. The charging station and restaurant would be located at 1401 Santa Monica Blvd.

The filing doesn’t offer any details on what to expect, but many Tesla watchers are speculating that the site could be home to the “old-school, drive-in, roller skates & rock”-themed restaurant that Tesla CEO Elon Musk teased last year.

TMC Member callmesam shared some photos taken Tuesday at the site, which included a notice for demolition.

When Musk announced the plans he said the Supercharger station would include an outdoor screen playing “a highlight reel of the best scenes in movie history.” Musk also plans for the restaurant menu to pop-up on Tesla owners’ car screens when the vehicle is placed in park.

Tesla opened last year a 40-stall Supercharger in Kettleman City between Los Angeles and San Francisco that includes a lounge and cafe. The company is also reportedly developing a convenience store concept.
