An image of a partially covered vehicle in Tesla’s new promotional video has many wondering if the company is teasing a new model.
The slick new promotional video released Wednesday shows off the company’s auto and energy products, but a single frame at 16 seconds has invited some new theories as to what Tesla could soon announce.
The covered vehicle’s roofline seems to be similar to a crossover vehicle, which has some wondering if Tesla showed a prototype of the Model Y crossover that is slated to be the next vehicle in its lineup. Musk said on the company’s recent earnings call that the Model Y won’t hit roads until 2020, but it’s reasonable to believe the automaker has a prototype in the works.
TMC members also speculated on the possibility of the car being a prototype of a refreshed Model S. The Model S design has been relatively unchanged since its debut in 2012, so it’s certainly a possibility that the sedan will soon receive a facelift.
That said, some observers say the vehicle is simply a Model 3 wearing a sheet.
Sadly it's not :/ I thought it was too but then I did a side-by-side pic.twitter.com/P98omeo8RB
