SpaceX Sends Military GPS Into Orbit

SpaceX sent a Global Positioning System satellite into orbit for the U.S. Space Force today. 

A Falcon 9 rocket launched from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The GPS III-SV05 deployed was built by Lockheed Martin.

The mission was SpaceX’s second of the month and 19th of the year. The first stage of the rocket also successfully landed on the company’s drone ship. 

The mission was 122nd Falcon 9 rocket flight and the 89th successful booster recovery to date.

SpaceX has also secured the next GPS III mission, scheduled for next year. The U.S. military is currently in the process of upgrading 10 GPS satellites.

SpaceX’s next mission, Transporter-2, is scheduled for June 24.
