Tesla Stops Referral Program for Cars

Tesla has stopped its referral program for vehicles, according to an update on its website.

The program previously gave owners the opportunity to earn prizes, including the company’s upcoming Tesla Roadster sports car. Owners were given a unique referral link to offer to new buyers.

The prizes have fluctuated over the years. The Roadster prize was eventually removed. The amount of free Supercharging miles was reduced. And, now the company has halted the program for vehicles altogether. The company is also ending referrals for solar panels but will continue to offer $500 for a Solar Roof referral.

“As of September 18, 2021, vehicle products, and solar panels are no longer eligible for Referral awards,” the website says.

“At this time, orders for Solar Roof are eligible for the Referral Program. To earn Referral awards, Solar Roof orders must be placed through your unique referral link. Note that referrals cannot be added after an order is placed, and awards are granted after the Solar Roof system receives permission to operate on the grid from your utility.”

It’s not clear if the referral program for cars is gone for good. Some Tesla watchers believe an updated version is on the way, however Tesla has not mentioned that on its Referral Program page.
