Tesla Drops ‘Motors’ From Name, Now Tesla Inc.

Tesla continues to position itself as more than a car company, as it has officially changed the company’s name from Tesla Motors Inc. to Tesla Inc. The move comes shortly after changing the company’s website address from teslamotors.com to tesla.com in July.

The company’s recent acquisition of SolarCity and the debut of a solar home roof that can fill Tesla battery products like the Powerwall and Powerpack are evidence that the company’s aim is a comprehensive energy alternative.

CEO Elon Musk hasn’t been shy about sharing the broader strategy, noting in his “Master Plan, Part Deux” – “The point of all this was, and remains, accelerating the advent of sustainable energy, so that we can imagine far into the future and life is still good. That’s what “sustainable” means. It’s not some silly, hippy thing — it matters for everyone.
By definition, we must at some point achieve a sustainable energy economy or we will run out of fossil fuels to burn and civilization will collapse.”

Tesla Motors Club, which is independent and separate from Tesla, Inc., does not plan to change its name and will continue to be a community for a wide range of Tesla-related topics.
