New Report Ranks Players in Self-Driving Tech

Tesla has certainly been an early-mover in delivering autonomous driving technology to our roadways, but the company is still lagging behind competitors developing the technology, according to a new report.

Navigant Research, a clean technology market research and consulting firm, created a leaderboard to examine the strategy and execution of 18 leading companies developing automated driving systems, Tesla included.

The companies were rated on 10 criteria: vision; go-to market strategy; partners; production strategy; technology; sales, marketing, and distribution; product capability; product quality and reliability; product portfolio; and staying power.

Ford and GM sat atop the ranking, while Tesla was not included. Ford CTO Raj Nair took a bit of a victory lap in a post to Medium. He wrote, “I’m proud of the work our team is doing to lead the self-driving revolution, and we are honored by the recognition that we’re getting along the way. That said, we do not underestimate the amount of work and innovation ahead of us, and we remain committed to delivering vehicles that will truly change the way the world moves and make transportation accessible for millions around the world.”
