See Results From the REFUEL All-Electric Time Trials

Last week at the 9th annual REFUEL all-electric time trials, TMC Connect attendees had the opportunity to participate in a parade lap on the famed Mazda Raceway.

The track, formerly known as Laguna Seca, is 2.2 miles long and features 11 turns including the Corkscrew, which plunges at up to an 18-percent drop between curves.

The event aims to showcase clean power transportation technology in a motorsports setting. Presented by Speed Ventures, a recreational motorsports sanctioning body in California, REFUEL drew record attendance this year.

Billy Kwan set the hot lap in Production class in his 2017 Chevy Bolt with a time of 1:56.619. Cameron Rogers’ 2016 Tesla Model S90D took first place in the higher-powered “Production GT” category at a lap time of 1:52.425.

“We’re already looking forward to REFUEL 2018 which will be the 10th year of this special event,” Speed Ventures’ Adam Gershon said. “We’re brainstorming ways to make it the biggest year yet, for both bikes and cars. And there may be extra excitement with the potential of Telsa’s Model 3 and the next generation Nissan Leaf being released in time for competition.”
