FedEx Orders 20 Tesla Semis

FedEx is the latest company to put in an order for the Tesla Semi.

The company said Monday it has ordered 20 trucks to be operated by FedEx Freight, the company’s less-than-truckload (LTL) service, which generally carries small cargo.

“FedEx has a long history of innovation and incorporating sustainability efforts throughout its global network,” FedEx Freight president and CEO Mike Ducker said in a release. “Our investment in these trucks is part of our commitment to improving road safety while also reducing our environmental impact.”

Since 2008, FedEx has saved more than 158 million gallons of vehicle fuel by replacing vehicles with more efficient models and making greater use of electric vehicles, fuel cells, natural gas, hybrids and clean truck technologies, the release said.

FedEx joins UPS, PepsiCo, Walmart and Anheuser-Busch on the list of companies who have agreed to add the Tesla Semi to their trucking fleets. The truck is scheduled for production in 2019.
