With Hurricane Florence bearing down on the Carolinas, Tesla is remotely enabling supercharging and boosting battery capacity for Tesla owners in the monster storm’s path.
Owners of Model S 60s and some Model S 70s will receive a message on the car’s screen informing them that the cars will have the extended range and supercharging capability through “some time in October.”
More than a million people are expected to evacuate ahead of the hurricane.
Tesla has unlocked range and supercharging in the past to help people escape natural disasters. For instance, when Hurricane Irma hit Florida and Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, Tesla remotely bumped the range an extra 30-40 miles.
