Tesla has unlocked free Supercharging in China as the country deals with the health emergency caused by Coronavirus.
Tesla owners in China received a notification the the offer would be available for an indefinite amount of time, as citizens try to flee exposure to the deadly virus.
“To make it easier for you to travel during the coronavirus outbreak, effective today we will temporarily open all Tesla vehicles to be free to charge at the Supercharging station until the epidemic is resolved,” Tesla’s note to customers said, according to screenshots shared to Twitter by Tesla owner @Ray4Tesla. “We hope that during this extraordinary period, you will be able to replenish electricity efficiently and use your car smoothly when needed. After the epidemic ceases, we will notify you again before resetting your vehicle to its original configuration. We hope to provide you with a modest effort so you can spend this time smoothly. Tesla reserves the right to make the final decision in this event.”
Tesla has offered free Supercharging to owners in emergency situations several time in the U.S. For instance, hurricanes that have hit the east coast and wildfires that have ravaged the west coast.
More than 4,500 people across China have become ill with Coronavirus and more than 100 people have died.
