SpaceX Starlink Mission Sets Flight Record

SpaceX added 58 internet-beaming satellites to its Starlink constellation with a record-breaking flight for a Falcon 9 booster.

The Falcon 9 used on the mission has been used on three previous Starlink missions and two commercial satellite missions. Tuesday’s launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station was the booster’s sixth flight, a new record for SpaceX. The booster landed safely on SpaceX’s droneship Of Course I Still Love You in the Atlantic Ocean.

The mission also marked SpaceX’s 100th flight since its founding.

The mission, Starlink 10, followed another Starlink mission on Aug. 7.

SpaceX’s fleet of Starlink satellites now totals 653. SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk has said that 400 to 800 Starlink satellites in orbit will be capable of providing minimal internet coverage, and up to 1,600 to provide moderate coverage. The company plans a beta test in North America later this year.
