Tesla Model S Price Cut to $71,900

Tesla’s Model S received a price chop Tuesday, with the automaker’s flagship sedan now starting at $71,900.

Since Tesla now has a couple lower priced options in the Model 3 and Model Y, the pricier Model S and Model X have seen slower sales. Deliveries of Model S and Model X were 15,200 in Q3, down from as many as 27,660 vehicles in Q3 2018.

The new $3,000 price cut will apply to both the Model S Long Range Plus and Performance. The price of the upcoming Model S Plaid remains $139,990.

The price change may make the Model S more appealing to some buyers, as the larger sedan now comes closer in price to the top of the line Model 3 Performance. It’s a timely change as Tesla makes push its final push to meet sales goals by the end of the year.
