There won't be a full substitute for seeing the colors in person.

I agree, there's no substitute for seeing the car in person. Before you commit to a color, I would strongly recommend that you visit a Tesla or Lotus store to make sure you like it. I used to like radiant red but since visiting the Menlo Park store, my new favorite color is electric blue.

I'm considering adding gray or silver stripes that would match the gray interior. I'm waiting to hear how much it would cost.

A cheaper option might be to install aftermarket stripes like the ones you can get from Lotus (look under Exterior Upgrades / Custom Striping).

Well I think we've established that Tesla are happy to paint this car however people want it (for a price). But it would be better to see some of the other Lotus colour options rather than all these "I'll have what Martin's had" paint schemes.

I keep changing my mind but if I go for stripes, it will probably look like this (click for larger image):

Are you thinking of blue seat inserts to match the stripes?

I was over at the Menlo Park store on Saturday hoping to get a look at some customer cars (I'm still tiring to decide on my color choice). I got to talking with Jeremy Cleland the Senior Manager of After Sales Operations; he said they are working on different custom interior options including the full leather trim like P4. Like the custom paint option the various interior options would expand the range of available colors - for a price.

Oh, and by the way I got an opportunity to drive VP13 with drive train 1.5 (just installed)

Are you serious or messing with us?

Laurent, I like those dark blue on electric blue stripes you have in mind, although it does seem like you are trying to take an outrageous concept (stripes) and tone them down to make them more conservative. Subdued outrageousness does seem in keeping with the whole concept of the car though.

By default, I'll go with light gray or dark gray inserts but if blue is available by the time my car goes into production, I'll consider it.

That's exactly what I'm going for. I don't want to look like a "racer" so racing stripes are a bit too much for me but I'd like the car to have a unique look.

No foolin'

I dropped by the store just expecting to look at some cars hoping to get a little closer to making a color choice, but the store wasn't too busy, so Jeremy offered me a drive. VP13 happened to be almost fully charged and ready to go. So I got a chance to cruse (fly) around un-chaperoned for about 30min. or so.

I think I'm still a little light headed from all the 0-60 blasts, it really pins your head to the headrest.
