Loan news on a youtube clip?

Wow... that guy probably didn't realize he was on the record.

I the "big announcement" is likely the one I expected them to make in New York and is separate from the loans. The Chicago Tribune article he refers to is the reprint of Dan Neil's LA Times story about driving the Model S mule/styling prototype. (In my opinion it was really premature to let any press drive that version of the car, by the way.)

Another interesting thing to notice is that there is actually a plate in that spot between the seats. All the Founders' and Sig100 cars (including some VPs like 12 and 16) have this spot which was to have special metal plate. This is the first time I've actually seen one there. The plate was supposed to have the signatures of everyone in the company or something like that.

I think I can guess who "that guy" is and who he is talking to on the phone.
(But no point in speculating or trying to say anyways).

He had to know the passenger was filming him. Everything seems to end up on youtube these days.

That's almost too good to be true.

Notice he says the official loan announcement is coming at the end of the month, so the Monday thing has to be something else (factory?).

BTW I presume driving and talking on the phone is illegal across the US?

That is an incredible coincidence for this guy to get a test ride in a Roadster with an owner of a Founders Series, and the driver gets a phone call while filming and the conversation is about news coming out on Monday.

Plus they expect the gov't loan to be announced by the end of the month.

Incredible if it actually happens that way.

The owner of the car is clearly an investor in Tesla Motors with that Founders Series plate. So he would likely be in the know.

I agree, that this seems a little too lucky an encounter - but @ the same time, what does Tesla really gain from a video like this? Do you think someone would see this & then commit to a Sedan?

Or am I missing a bigger picture here...

My very first thought when viewing this was "possibly staged", but then I thought the same thing you did - what is to be gained?

Hopefully he still gives rides to fans, but next time tells them to turn their camera off before taking a phone call...

If this was an unintentional leak, it doesn't really say much - just gets our hopes up that the next few weeks will have a bunch of positive news for the company.

It isn't just this clip... there seem to be multiple signs that big news is coming soon.

I really doubt the vid is staged. The guy driving is from Valor Equity Partners and probably thought the kid was just taking photos.

An announcement has been expected for a couple weeks now. The delay might suggest some last minute negotiations.

The driver many have thought the passenger was taking stills.

I did find it odd that the passenger did not "squeal" at the acceleration, though he might have made a face since the driver laughed.
