does anyone know of anyone selling a 2008 tesla of any kind? i really dont want to have to wait. haha
Assuming you are serious about a purchase, it would be difficult (but not impossible, I assume) to find such a thing.
Only 20ish people actually have a physical Roadster today. In theory, these are the only people who able to sell the Tesla. Everyone else merely has a spot on a waiting list. Tesla (the company) has taken a few pains to try to keep people from selling their spot on the list.
When you give a deposit to Tesla, you sign a paper essentially saying you will not sell your spot in line. If you change your mind and want your deposit back, you give the spot back to Tesla who then has the option of reselling your place to someone important.
So your only options are to either convince Tesla that you are an important enough person to take the next available slot that pops up, or you need to privately find an owner who wishes to get his/her deposit back, and is willing to make a deal with you behind Tesla's back.

It is hard to imagine that any of the early purchasers would be interested in reselling for a trivial profit. You should be aware that Signature 100 buyers, who are the first non-investors scheduled for delivery, prepaid the entire purchase price about 2 years ago. It is also likely that these first cars will be automatic collectibles too, further increasing their value. So it is unlikely any would part with their soon-to-be delivered cars without serious incentive.
If anyone is looking to induce an early buyer to part with his Tesla, you would probably have to consider Bugatti Veyron-like prices.

Some 2008 Roadsters available, for a premium
In a recent email to the owners, Darryl Siry tells us that there are a "limited number" of 2008 Roadsters available, which will be produced at the end of the 2008 run (before the 2009 run). The 2008 run will still be limited to 600. The base price of these vehicles is $125,000.
If you're interested, contact Doreen Allen, National Sales Manager, at [email protected] or 650-413-6231.

Looking for a 2008 Tesla now
If anybody doesn´t like his Tesla and wants to get rid of it, please contact me. My hope was to find one by the end of this year so any order nr up to 150 should be fine. I don´t want to buy a contract or anything against the Tesla Rules. I´m looking for a car that has been delivered or will be delivered soon.

Another option is to possibly buy a 2008 from Tesla itself. I think they are still selling them. Unfortunately, it will probably not be delivered until April or May, but you can ask to see if they will deliver it to you before that. The price they are asking is probably not much higher than someone who is a current owner would resell for. At your higher price point, perhaps they will put you earlier in line.

It would actually be a fascinating market experiment to have an existing Roadster auctioned, thereby establishing some kind of true market price. The official selling price is obviously the low end of the range, as there is a long backlog of orders, and new orders are for delivery in a year or so. What would a Roadster available NOW, to the highest bidder, bring? :biggrin:

:biggrin:Most (if not all) Signature 100 owners also signed a document in which they agreed not to resell their vehicle for a set amount of time (6 months?). I can dig up the exact details if people care.
Whether that document would hold up in court is (obviously) unknown if folks were sufficiently motivated to test it...
I think that I am less than 2 weeks away from delivery. I somebody wants to offer me $300k, then I would consider it.

I never believe what a dealership says. The car is hot for sure, but paying 500k is just burning money, I don´t believe in 500k offers. In these economy times the markup should be reasonable. I have never seen a new car that sells for 5x of the manufacturer price...
When I stopped by the LA store a few months ago I struck up a conversation with a couple of "poser" guys in the showroom. I knew a lot about the car so I was correting (nerd wise) some of their misconceptions about Electrics.
They did not care, They were swimming with money and wanted to buy the car right now for their rich "friend"at double or triple the price. Later I heard the sales guy tell them sorry but the day before they had sold 8 of them.
I felt a lot of phony bluster from these guys but they did have expensive grunge-wear, bling, and drove away in a Bently so...
I would be inclined to believe it. The thing is, the friends and peers of many of the people now driving these cars would indeed have money to burn even in these times. There are many people making millions a year who are used to buying what the want when they want it.
All cars delivered to date and probably through the end of the year have been paid for long ago and are one of a kind signed special editions that stand an excellent chance of being very valuable some time in the future.
You´re right, it depends on the wealth of the individual. For me 500k for a Tesla would be burning money because I know that it won´t be nearly worth that amount of money in one year. But for somebody that has a really big wallet and just wants the car, sure, no problem... but again MSRP x5 I have never seen (beside charity auctions at B&J).
For all those here that ordered the Roadster and are lucky to take delivery soon but don´t have the huge wallet mentioned above...here comes my advise: Keep your old car, sell your Tesla for 500k and order 5x 09s for you, your wife, kids and your grandpa :biggrin:
