Infotainmente/MCU Upgrade Confirmed (US only for now)

I didn't get an email - was sent the link by a friend in the States. Seems to be US-only for the time being. Us Aussies will have to hold out and hope!

Infotainmente/MCU Upgrade Confirmed (US only for now)

As per the title: Infotainment Upgrade Also added a screenshot as you might be annoyingly and constantly redirected to the Australian site which won't show the actual page. For MS/X built March 2018 or prior. Maybe there is hope for AU customers down the track...

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

I've asked Tesla staff while the car's been in for service and they were pretty mum on the topic. But yeah, have heard those rumours for awhile. I'd do it assuming the cost isn't exorbitant.

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

And so I really hope in 3 years they're all gone...might be wishful thinking!

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

I feel that this may happen to me too...so I'm perversely hoping my MCU konks out just a month or two away from warranty expiry (which would be 2022 ish) - the logic being by then, there shouldn't be any new MCU1 units hanging around :D

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

Yes, which my car (late-2017/Feb-2018 delivery) has, as I'm sure many others do. I'm not implying this is some Tesla-specific issue. I'm quite familiar with flash memory wear profiles. The issue is the excessive logging in /var/ that needs to be remediated (if not done already). It's probably...

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

And even then, given Tesla's policy against third party repairs, you'd be voiding your warranty by getting anyone other than Tesla themselves to replace the MCU... sigh.

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

I'm seeing a lot more media coverage of the issue now as well (in addition to Inside EV's article). I guess when it's happening to the 2013 units, it's a matter of time as it sweeps across the 14s, 15s and so on.

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

Wouldn't mind being able to do this either. Good peace of mind. Hmm, I'd better drive my MS a bit more then to make 80k miles prior to the warranty expiring! I want MCU2! :D

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

The way I'm interpreting it is that a MCU-less car may be 'technically' drivable but practically undrivable - i.e. if your MCU died you probably wouldn't be driving your car until it's fixed again. I also recall one time when my MCU temporarily crashed and until I pulled over and restarted it...

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

As per the article, your MCU stops functioning and by extension, you will be unable to drive your car. The article also links to another TMC thread with more details.

    MCU Flash Memory Wear?

An interesting read: UPDATE: Tesla Cars Have A Memory Problem That May Cost You A Lot To Repair Has anyone experienced this? My car's a late-2017 MY (Feb-2018 delivery) P100D Model S though I've only driven it 22,000km or so, and thus I don't expect it to happen any time soon. That said, the...

Gosh. I miss out on the upgraded MCU and now this. Ah well, I guess it would be worse if Teslas stopped improving.
