What will separate S from 3?

The batteries need to be cheaper/higher power density though to hit that pricepoint , which is why currently I don't believe it is feasible economically Golf GTI has a top safety rating, this is true Vehicle details , Official VW Golf 2012 safety rating results

What will separate S from 3?

The way I see it for Model S: Slightly larger , More cargo space Hatchback More performance available More technology More options/customizing What I hope for the model 3: easier to maneuver (minimally smaller turning circle) easier to find parking spot due to shorter length & width lower...

Front end design of the Tesla Model 3

I don't understand why a car that does not need a grille should have one? That said, Tesla is not infallible, reportedly Saleen's front end revision of the Tesla has lower drag. I think Brabus' modified Tesla model S is mostly cosmetic as far as the front splitter; the biggest change for...

    Model 3 and auto insurance

I find that to be amazing. The Model 3 should be less since it is steel. Aluminum welding is much more difficult and rare. If I'm not mistaken it will be at most aluminum panels on a steel unibody frame similar to a new Ford F-150 . According to IIHS, "Total repair costs for the front and...

    Model 3 Notchback Trunk - Deal-Killer?

    Except 35K is not budget, that's mid range / entry-luxury. Budget is more 20-25K (think Toyota Camry/Honda Accord/Mazda 6/Subaru Legacy/Ford Fusion/VW Passat/Kia Optima/Chevrolet Malibu/Chrysler 200/Nissan Altima/Hyundai Sonata/Buick Verano). See IIHS , 3 series / C Class / A4 are "Midsize...

    Front End... Hmmmmmm

The Saleen design is much sleeker. They could make quite a bit of money if they just sold that front bumper cover portion.

Bolt has FWD and Model 3 does not.

Have you seen the videos of Tesla Model S RWD in snow? The low center of gravity and decent traction control more than compensate for the RWD. Just put some winter tires (Blizzaks/Nokians/etc) on it. Anyway it is highly likely AWD will be offered. Why would you want torque steer?

Your Ideal Model 3 Color Configuration

Pearl White Multi-Coat (not Solid White which appears to be a flat white) looks nice as does Silver Metallic. Those are timeless colors fit for any occasion.

How can Model 3 already have 5-star NHTSA ratings?

Easy: design it with the same principles as the Model S Many automakers are achieving safety ratings across their model range (Subaru , anyone?) using one platform modified for several cars.

    What wasn't said.

I don't see the problem with more people using the Superchargers unless they are abusing it (i.e. never charging at home) or taking up spots from people that really need it for long trips. Superchargers for the most part use renewable energy so it's actually better if you're trying to be...

    Model 3 Dimensions

It'll likely have larger interior volume since it doesn't have to house an engine, gas tank, and conventional transmission. off Edmunds: BMW 3 series: length 182.2 in. , width 71.3 in. , height 56.3 in, wheelbase 110.6 in., cargo with seats in place 17.5 cu.ft. BMW 4 series (not same price...

    Model 3 Notchback Trunk - Deal-Killer?

Well it seems people find things to complain about. This is the price of a 3 series , A4, or C class. They don't have liftback hatches either.

March Model 3 Unveil just drawings? No actual car? Disappointed.

Eh? I don't see any major difference other than the nosecone and headlight/fog light look.

Looking Forward to the Model 3 Debut

Depending on fuel costs and the availability of superchargers, there could be a major cost savings if gas prices go up again. You also save on engine and drivetrain maintenance. Depending on where you live there could be incentives for the breaker boxes and other electrical installations if...

Chevy Bolt is Ugly, Model 3 Still Poised to outsell if Attractively Designed

I skimmed this thread but they're not in the same league even if they're the same starting price. 1. Buyer perception: Tesla is viewed as more high end ; Chevrolet is seen as a bailout company (Tesla receives federal money too but not a bailout) with poor reliability 2. The Bolt is styled like...
