Tesla to add the ability to Charge EV with excess solar

As I read through this thread, I found Gwgan's post 218 interesting. I an not sure what his buy and sell rates are. I think he is on net meeting and they are the same. If they are the same, maybe the system decides it doesn't care if it uses grid or solar. Anyone know about this?

Can solar only be used to charge powerwalls during a power outage?

I have 2 powerwalls with just under 10kW DC solar with the Tesla controller system. When the grid goes down, I don't see much impact on my home. Even the electric clocks hold their time. The only thing that seems to notice is my Dish Hopper DVR which does an automatic reboot. The system keeps...

Based on the yellow microfiber cloth, it looks like he shops at Costco.

Referral credit counts against IRA tax credit limit?

I don't have an X, but I am considering one. I have two cars (Chevrolet and Lincoln) with ventilated seats. This is a must for me in Tucson, AZ when the temp is 115. My black seats are OK with the ventilated option. Can someone comment on the X seats to their quick cooling capability -...

How do I prioritize solar for self consumption when using Time Based Control?

RKCRLR, I am using TBC. I have a 4 cents offset during peak and my system uses PW during peak. I actually have 4 time periods. In the summer, it is one peak, two shoulder and one super off peak. System has ran correctly for several years. In the winter it is even messier as we have 2 peak...

Surprised not to see a discussion thread about the brand new Energy screens / Charts in Tesla app [7.15.2023]

I find when I turn on the eye to show all activity, it is difficult to see the individual elements. I prefer the eye off and to only look at one element at a time. Then the graph seems to track what is happening.

Phoenix Heat + Powerwalls = shortened Lifespan?

For AZ there is not any real ROI for PWs. The peak to non-peak rates are to close. Not like parts of CA where the differ by up to 30 cents per kWh. In Tucson, the delta is only about 3 cents per kWh. The ROI I get is not having AC shut off, clocks to reset, etc. during a power failure. We...

Upgrade to 400amp Service / Powerwalls, Solar, Non-backed Up Loads, Dedicated EV Meter, Oh My!

I can't answer your question but ... Do you really need to have two high current EVSEs running at the same time. If not, you can get a two headed, power sharing EVSE and save a lot of money and work. I posted a link to the tesla solution below. There are similar units from other manufacturers...

Phoenix Heat + Powerwalls = shortened Lifespan?

Very interesting. Please share your ideas on why PW 1 & 3 run about 3 degrees hotter. Are they in a 2 x 2 stack?

Solar System Size vs Number of Powerwalls

I have 10 kW of solar and 2 PWs. My peak times are almost the same as yours, Jeremy. During the summer in Tucson, AZ I use almost no grid power during the peak (3-7 pm). Solar and the batteries take care of me. I considered putting in a 3rd PW for extra backup in case of a power failure but...

Surprised not to see a discussion thread about the brand new Energy screens / Charts in Tesla app [7.15.2023]

I like it because it is easier to get all the data - more like the original app which I refused to update until forced by Tesla.

Powerwalls now available for direct order

In addition to the gateway, I have a generation panel. It has 4 breaker positions for up to 4 batteries. Currently I have 2 PWs and there are 2 20 amp breakers - one for each PW. To expand I would need a new breaker, wiring and programming of the gateway. In 2021 I got a quote for...

Tesla to add the ability to Charge EV with excess solar

If you want to charge only from solar now, you can do it using the Emporia EVSE with their power monitoring system. Links to both are below. The EVSE is not Tesla, so you would need a tap to use it. I think a Tesla version will be available soon. A friend of mine has this with solar and 1...
