Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

strange - my PW didn't stop discharging at 9PM, i guess it decided that partial-peak was still worth it. however when i opened the VPP page in the app, even at 9:15 it said "1 minute left". maybe that is just a display problem.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

yeah i didn’t connect the dots but my export was about 4.4kw at 30% and increased to 5.4 when i dropped my reserve to 10% just now.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

yeah mine seems to be discharging the max for me, which is about 5.4Kw. this is a weird one though as noted upthread. there’s no event over at CAISO. i guess it is another tesla test?

Powerwalls now available for direct order

    thanks, somehow i missed that.

Powerwalls now available for direct order

did you really order just the powerwall? i already have a 2PW system and on the tesla powerwall website, there doesn't seem to be any way to just order the battery without the gateway and other supporting stuff. also i contacted a couple local installers and they wanted ~$6000 to install...

Please excuse my absolute PG&E first True-Up bill cluelessness (First True up b/w detail bill)

these huge (-5MWh) yearly exports. i thought the IOUs pretty much explicitly limited the size of a system so that you aren't a net exporter like this. it just seems too large to me. of course someone could move out of the house and then have no consumption or something but i'm assuming that...

Please excuse my absolute PG&E first True-Up bill cluelessness (First True up b/w detail bill)

i guess i never noticed what PGE would have allowed me to install solar-wise since i was limited by the size of the roof. i did have an EV for 4 years before installing solar so my usage was pretty high (700-1000kwh per month). this probably means i could have installed a much larger system and...

Please excuse my absolute PG&E first True-Up bill cluelessness (First True up b/w detail bill)

just as a general question to the experts: how does this happen? i thought you could only install 130% (or some similar small amount over 100%) of your previous average usage for a year or two. i'm surprised to see a 5mwh surplus given those rules. i suppose the math could still work out if OP...

How to find out Gateway IP Address?

my gateway registers itself as "teg" when it does a DHCP request, so it's possible that OP could just type https://teg into their browser and the local dns resolver in the router will resolve that to the IP address.

Master Thread: Energy products and Tax discussions

i mean, you asked how the IRS would or could know. the answer is, with some effort, they can know. i agree it's not likely that they would put effort into this, but it is technically knowable. i really doubt tesla would spend a red cent defending their customers. it's not EM's way. they don't...

Master Thread: Energy products and Tax discussions

i guess it all depends on whether or not your utility or Tesla decides to "cooperate" with the feds. the utility can't know for sure you are grid charging but of course certain patterns of consumption would indicate it is likely. and of course tesla knows exactly what your powerwall is doing at...

How to route ethernet along the outside wall to gateway

all i can say is what i said: when it starts acting up, the cause is not RF interference or external wifi issues or the wifi base station, the problem is in the gateway. maybe it's the wifi interface itself that has a problem; no way to really know cause i can't reboot or power cycle just that...

How to route ethernet along the outside wall to gateway

i never got around to doing this. my motivation was that at times the wifi connection to the gateway becomes very flaky. it turns out that this must be some kind of memory leak inside the gateway firmware. when it starts acting up, if i go reboot the gateway it starts working again and works...

Powerwalls now available for direct order

that's a good question, i should try to look back to days when there was a storm watch event to see how much the PW pulled from the grid. i have 200A service so you'd think that they were OK with 48kw draw at least when the house was built. i don't think i've ever seen more than ~13kw being...

Powerwalls not charging to 100% when Storm Watch is triggered?

before the last AR there was no storm watch, so i set my reserve to 100%, and the PW charged all the way up on solar energy. i noticed in the morning that the SOC was down slightly. the PW reported a 3-5 watts exported during each 5 minute period during the night. what's weird is that the SOC...
