If you fast charge, Tesla will permanently throttle charging

Hey have you noticed that when you plug in at a SpC, it may say 50 minutes remaining, but when you leave for 30 minutes and come back, it doesn't say 20 minutes, it says 30 minutes remaining? I've noticed that the time is not accurate, and it ALWAYS takes longer than the estimated time. Could...

If you fast charge, Tesla will permanently throttle charging

True, I would have preferred to know that after N# of fast DC charges, that it would switch to a sort of "limp" mode, not that 87kw is slow, but this is sort of the price we all pay for being early adopters... when I bought mine, the deal was "free supercharging for life" not any particular kW...

If you fast charge, Tesla will permanently throttle charging

Yes, tesla does recommend you use the UMC or a HPWC... btw I have 2 HPWC's installed at home & 2 50A Level 2 EVSE's, along with a single CHAdeMO and two 14-50 receptacles. We don't believe in "sharing" at my place :) I don't think the DC charging is doing anything harmful since it's all DC to...

If you fast charge, Tesla will permanently throttle charging

I don't think my 85 is a upgradable 90, I ordered when they announced the D, and took delivery in March 2015. I live in "new construction" and sort of at the edge of town. I have a dedicated transformer, and was able to get 3 phase power. My home is big so I was forced to get 500A service. This...

If you fast charge, Tesla will permanently throttle charging

I will add my unique situation: 2015 85D - one of the first to be delivered I got the single charger and installed chademo at home. My thinking is it would be more practical for my uses. I drive a lot, it's normal for me to charge 3 times in a single day. I sometimes get home and have to...

    Max regen capability

On a Model S 85D the display has a max of 50kWh regen, it might be more, but thats all the display has. If you regen for a long time (i.e. going down a long hill) it will actually limit regen (and regen brakes) in favor of battery safety. The limit takes into account SOC (state of charge)...

    Charging ok?

you should try and upgrade to a 40A charger, if you get home late (like 11pm) with a 10% charged battery, it will take almost 14 hours to get back to 90% at 20A. It'll be half that at 40A and so the car will be full by 6am (instead of 1pm) I think 40A is totally sufficient for most people...

Who Is Offering The Best Insurance Rates?

I use MetroMile (per mile insurance). I have an 85D and pay $242.06/6-months ($1.33/day) and $0.062/mile. This is for the max coverage they offer ($250k/$500k, $500 deductible). To insure 2 daily-driven cars + 2 non-driven cars it's about $200/month (depends on how much you drive). It might not...

Regen - It effects on the traction battery - also deceleration

Wikipedia has a great explaination: Battery balancing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Basically if one "cell" or in the Tesla case "group of cells" in series is lower voltage than the others, it ends up getting used more. You don't fully charge it, and you discharge it more than the others...

Regen - It effects on the traction battery - also deceleration

I live at a pretty high elevation (3000ft) and everyday drive down to sea level. What I've noticed is the following: 1 - I regen around 5-7% on a 85D leaving home and going out (downhill) 2 - because of #1 I try not to charge above 80-85% at home 3 - I also freely use the A/C, heater, seat...

    Supercharging letter from Tesla 8-13-2015

I got the email, I was also told the same thing in the letter verbally *after* taking delivery while in for service. Before delivery I was told "use it as much as you like".... I was in a strange situation when I took delivery, was basically living out of hotels (without charging stations) so I...

Blackvue 650 (Dashcam) Group Buy for $310, including 32 Gig card and Power Magic Pro

Does the GPS work for everyone? I mounted mine just under the autopilot camera and I've never gotten a GPS signal. Actually I got the correct time so it must be getting a signal, but my location and MPH data is missing from the recordings. Anyone else with the same issue?

SF Area to ... Road Trip Advice

The SC will charge at a very high rate up to about 50%, then slowly (but still plenty fast) charge the remaining 50% so it's better (faster) if you arrive with like 20% charge, then charge to 60% or whatever you need to get to the next SC or your destination.
