  • Hey, I have been interested in getting an OBDII cable to use the Scan My Tesla app. Really I am more interested in building my own cable, did you build one or did you buy one?
I bought two. I have received one so far. I have the geotab cable it was $35+shipping when I got it. It is now $42 + shipping. I believe the geotab one works only on pre-2019 model 3s.
There are two other ones available and both have versions for pre and post 2019 model 3s. One from Germany for about 70 euros or 90 euros with the bluetooth adapter and scan my tesla software. And one from US from $299, but the US one has a fancy computer canbus analyzer attached which is not necessary for most people.
If you are wanting to build your own cable to save money I'd recommend just buying one. The cable plugs in between the actual canbus for the car so I assume if it fails while driving you may get all kinds of propulsion limited, please pull over messages as the car won't know the temperature of the battery, and several other control signals, etc.
