Range inquiry [miles traveled vs. miles left]

I share your frustration as that is also my frustration with my Model Y LR. I find it typically gets 30% less range that what the display shows (the rated range). If you use 33%, another way to think about it is that every mile you drive uses 1.5 miles of range. So that 91 miles would use 137...

    Thule Roof Cargo Box Size?

You can move the car out of the garage and then push the liftgate up as far as it will go (it's meant to let this happen). Then you can see if it hits the cargo box. The liftgate will go back to its set height the next time it is opened.

    Thule Roof Cargo Box Size?

Does anyone have experience with the Thule Pulse Alpine Cargo Box? I don't need a lot of space, but want something to carry skis. It's smaller, at only 11 cubic feet of storage, but looks quite streamlined, so hopefully causes less range loss. The specs say the bar spacing should be 35 3/4". My...

    Model Y Snow Chains

Sorry to hear about that damage. Big bummer. Tesla does mention on the page describing the chains: "Tesla recommends removing the Aero covers on 19” Gemini Wheels before installing snow chains to prevent potential scratches and scuffs."

    Model Y Snow Chains

AAARRGGHH. I got the recommend SZ143 size of the SCC Super Z6 chains and they are too small to get onto my tires. There are three places to clip together the cables and for the last one, the ends are just too far apart. I should likely get the size Michael above got, the SZ429. Those look to be...

    Model Y Snow Chains

Michael - Thanks for the good info. I'm sold, I'm getting the SuperZ6. They also look like they would be less likely to scratch the wheel covers than a full metal set of chains, like the Tesla Konig chains. Note, it is not just Amazon. The Security Chain Company / Peerless web site has a chain...

    Model Y Snow Chains

Two questions I'm hoping you can answer. 1. Why the SCC SuperZ6 instead of the SCC Z-Chain? I think it is the right call, but would like to hear your thoughts. 2. You mention getting the SZ429. But the sizing chart for the SCC SuperZ6 on Amazon suggests for the 255/45 R19 tires that come on...

What Bike Rack has less drag: Roof Rack or Hitch Rack

I strongly recommend a platform rack. For me the choice came down to the 1-UP rack and the Kuat Sherpa rack. I went with the 1-UP rack as they are modular, so can be configured to hold 1, 2, or 3 bikes. But the Kuat Sherpa rack is lighter that the 1-UP configured for 2 bikes. It holds exactly...

Issues with Model Y wireless phone charger

My issue is a slight variation of what is mentioned here. The iPhone charger in my MY works intermittently. For example, yesterday went for a drive and it wouldn't charge my son or my wife's iPhone XS, with the case on or the case off, nor would it charge my iPhone 12 Pro with a thin case. Tried...

For Those Who Went From Model 3 to Model Y

I should have mentioned that both my M3 and the MY came with the base 19" wheels.

For Those Who Went From Model 3 to Model Y

After ordering a M3 on the announcement day, I took possession of the LR RWD car in July, 2018. I loved the car. As others have said, it is a bit more difficult to get out of, since it is so low. But it also made me realize I could use a Tesla on trips, not just for around town driving. I...

What Bike Rack has less drag: Roof Rack or Hitch Rack

We only have road bikes. I have a Trek Domane, and my wife has the woman's equivalent, a Trek Silque bike. Funny fact: Trek's high end bikes are the Emonda, the Domane, and the Madone. They are all permutations of the same six letters. Thanks for all of the efficiency data. Did you get that...

What Bike Rack has less drag: Roof Rack or Hitch Rack

Thanks for your suggestion. I may go with putting both bike in the rear cargo area on my next trip, but it's a pain to do that, and makes putting luggage there more difficult. Plus I'd have to take some care to not have the bikes damage each other, say with a blanket and padding between them...

What Bike Rack has less drag: Roof Rack or Hitch Rack

I have the 1-UP platform Hitch rack on my MY. On a recent trip I used it to carry two road bikes. I knew it would create extra drag, but was shocked to see that my range was reduced by a third. Pretty consistently, for every mile I drove, my range went down by 1.5 miles. So my LR MY range went...

    Platform bike rack

Hmmm, I'm guessing you must have stopped at superchargers in both directions. I believe the MY has a 75 KWh battery or 75,000 Wh. So with at 475 Wh/mile consumption, your range was 75,000/475 = 157 miles, i.e. half the range, and less than the distance to your destination. (Let me know if you...
