Apple music-- can I play my own music?

You can stream your own music using Apple Music, but you will need to pay for the subscription. This is the iCloud part of Apple Music that predates the subscription streaming aspect, but it is still there. Assuming you have playlists set up, those will sync and show up in the car. In addition...

    Y tow an Alto

I’m picking up a R1713 in a few weeks and will be towing with a Y LR. What was your average speed, approximately with this efficiency? Looks like you are running with aero covers removed. Do you happen to know your efficiency on this route when not towing? TIA!

Model 3 - 1st impressions (for real this time)

Thanks for the fantastic and one of the most realistic reviews I’ve read. Keeps me going while waiting for my own Midnight Silver Model 3.

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

    Well said.

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

Good point. Also, Aaron Robinson (editor based in CA) owns or owned an iMEV of all things. Wrote once about it that I can recall. It isn't all negative, but I have grown tired of the ongoing glorification of ICE-produced HP, coupled with no recognition of the transformation that needs to happen...

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

Being in Minnesota, this has been one of the plusses for me with C&D. They get snow and potholes (although I guess you have the latter in CA also). As with long range in general, cold weather is a special use case. I drove an i3 BEV for 2 years, summer and winter, here. Range dropped to <50 mi /...

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

Just cancelled my subscription of about 20 years. This was the last straw as they have shown little interest in the coming EV revolution (which they would LOL at). I was figuring that the Model 3 would finally open some eyes there, but it is apparently not to be. They have done a few articles on...

    Regenerative Braking Behavior Poll

It is a bit more than SW as the AC induction motor in S & X is inherently less capable of providing regen at low speeds than a PM motor. Electronic brake application could simulate it, but that wouldn't be regen.

    Regenerative Braking Behavior Poll

Love the regen / one pedal driving in the Bolt. Hoping my Model 3 coming in a couple weeks won't be too far behind, but expectations are not high given reviews I've read. The PMSRM motor in Model 3 is capable of greater regen at lower speeds than the AC induction motors in S & X, but may be...

    Only charging to 302 miles?

Driving style also has a big effect on range. Power needed to maintain a constant speed is a square law function (proportional to speed squared). This post provides a bunch of data on Tesla models: Range of the Tesla Model S/X/3 at 65/70/75/80 mph ♞. As you can see, it is possible to exceed 310...

    S/3 Comparo -- Driven Back-to-Back-to-Back

Permanent magnet motor efficiency over induction motor could erase that difference.

I am now planning to get the full self-driving option and here is why

Funny how FSD is either available later this year or not available for decades. As in all polarized arguments, reality will play out somewhere in the middle. I believe Tesla will have a version of FSD that can be put before regulators in late 2019. It doesn't have to be perfect (and won't be)...

I am now planning to get the full self-driving option and here is why

The Bolt Premium trim is over 4k more and basically adds basic AP-type features (not as good though).
  14. Brian Anderson

So, when is APv2 going to be noticeably better than APv1? Or is it already?

That is giving Tesla's engineering and management teams WAY too much credit. More likely is that they honestly believed their timelines and technical capabilities and simply way underestimated.

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

Agree. I live in MN so snow is a 6 month / year reality. But it can't be emphasized enough that AWD is probably more of a net safety issue than solution for the driving population as a whole because it lets you overdrive your steering and braking in low-traction circumstances (plus, if traction...
