If you use the new "scheduled departure" feature and leave your car plugged in, be careful

I've had problems with this feature as well. I set it up for departure at 6 am each morning and put my limit at 80%. I then left for California for a week, and when I returned, the battery was charged to 100%, the charging outlet was lit up with a red circle, and I had an alert saying my...

Squirrels Under Solar Panels - Tesla Solutions?

As an aside, we have SunPower solar panels that our local installer (New England Clean Energy) put up for us in 2013. When they installed them, they noted that they had learned from their hundreds of installs in New England that spacing between the roof and the panels is key to preventing...

Help, One Electrician Wanted To Charge $1500

One thing my town inspector told me made me very glad my electrician pulled a permit and had the installation inspected. Few people check in with their insurance company about their electric car charging infrastructure, but should your house burn down as the result of an unlicensed charging...

    Weird rain damage

I'm the original poster. I'm at the Watertown Tesla Service Center today, and they are replacing the shield. Ironically, I had to drive through the Nor'easter slush to get here including several deep puddles, but the Gorilla tape I used to tape it up seems to have worked like a champ to get...

    Weird rain damage

Hi all, I took delivery of an arrest-me red AWD Model 3 for my wife on September 7 (I already have a model S). She was skeptical at first that she'd be able to figure out how to operate the car, but now loves, loves, loves her model 3. However, we did have some serious downpours yesterday here...

    AWD front motor sounds

We have an AWD Model 3 (non-performance) delivered on September 7, 2018 that also exhibits front wheel motor beep and whine. It was particularly noticeable on delivery day, but I believe that it has subsided with time. That said, if I turn off the radio and listen for it, I can hear the motor...

EZ-Pass transponder mounting on refreshed nosecone-less Model S

I'm the original poster again. Based on the comments above, I decided to check out my EZPass track record since I mounted my new white windshield transponder right side up in the black area (i.e., did the obvious mounting according to the instructions). Of the 64 EZPass transactions I've...

Folks living in cold/Northern States, what Model S do you own?

This doesn't really have anything to do with the choice of vehicle, but.... Aircraft pilots know this, but ironically, you do not spend equal amounts of time with headwinds and tailwinds. A headwind increases your energy expenditure for a given trip, while a tailwind decreases it. Therefore, if...

    Summon Features

I can say from experience that summoning your Tesla to back into your garage does work. You may have to train it a few times if your garage is tight or has an uneven lip, but my model S is happy to back into my garage under summon mode.

I'm thinking of getting a Model S: Would you recommend it?

Please note that I am a computer scientist by training, so my perspective is not mainstream. I came from a Mercedes Benz E320 4Matic. While it was a very comfortable experience when things were good, I eventually reconciled myself to a yearly expenditure of somewhere between $3K and $5K for...

    Dirty Windshield

Exactly: I carry Windex and paper towels in the trunk for exactly this purpose. I think the thing I love most about getting a new car every couple decades is that the windshield doesn't have any pockmarks or scratches for the first few months, and I do my best to keep it that way as long as...

Post a picture of your facelifted Model S

Here is Lightning, my S90D, at the Seabrook NH supercharger on its first road trip back in June. You are correct: metallic silver is not a common color on Teslas, in part because Tesla discontinued the color for about 18 months. It's only been back in the design center for about the last 9 months.

EZ-Pass transponder mounting on refreshed nosecone-less Model S

I mounted mine horizontally because others have reported success doing so, and I think it looks a bit better. If it fails, I'll try vertically, and then move to rear panel and rear window mounting. But I want to gather data on the success rate in each position to better gauge the performance of...

EZ-Pass transponder mounting on refreshed nosecone-less Model S

I'm the person who started this thread. The Natick, MA EZ-Pass center gave me a new smaller transponder with a fresh battery. To ensure that I'm doing a scientific test of the mounting, I have reverted to mounting my new transponder in the area to the right of the rear view mirror with the...

EZ-Pass transponder mounting on refreshed nosecone-less Model S

The Natick EZ-Pass Service Center on the Mass Pike nicely exchanged my 12-year-old FastLane transponder for one of the new smaller interior EZ-Passes. I've only been through one toll booth so far (the exit after the Natick Service Center visit), but I did get a green light there with my new...
