This happened to me yesterday. It never happened before upgrading to 2018.18.3. I was using my phone as a key and never got the Use the Card to drive prompt. There was no messaging of any kind.
One of the problems with the * Near profile conditions is they work on a scanning/polling interval. By default, the BT Near condition scans every 2 minutes while your phone is awake and every 10 minutes while asleep. Neither of those windows is good for something that would need to be instantaneous.
I've been considering this, but I'm interested to hear how it holds up to the elements and if you find you have touch up often or anything. I'd appreciate it if you could post an update after a while with how it's doing.
Something else that might be important is if the user has a paired Wear OS device (smartwatch). Some people report that helps them while others report it makes the situation worse. Just a thought.

Make sure you are using the correct vehicle ID. It's the "id" field in the vehicle list response *not* the "vehicle_id" field.
