Reasons to hold out on upgrading HW2.5 to HW3?

Can you share more about why the HW3 retrofit install is "jerry-rigged?" Tesla doesn't do things in the neatest way, but I imagine that they have to at least meet regulatory standards. And what is HW3.1 and HW3.5?

Reasons to hold out on upgrading HW2.5 to HW3?

I will get the upgrade and be done with it!

Reasons to hold out on upgrading HW2.5 to HW3?

I purchased my 2018 M3 and it is still running HW2.5. Since I bought FSD, I get a free upgrade to HW3. I've driven the Hertz rental car M3's running Autopilot on HW3 and observe little difference in Autopilot capability compared to my car. Wondering if I should hold off on upgrading to HW3...

Best practices after getting rear-end collision

Yesterday, my 2018 RWD was rear-ended near LAX. (Other driver at fault.) My car suddenly became undriveable and my 12V battery suddenly became limited. The 12V died ~2.5 hours later. I think the pyrofuse likely broke. I was able to do #1 and #2, but didn't have time to do #3 and #4. Based on...

Michelin Crossclimate2 in snow: as good as putting on tire cables?

We got a couple inches last night in Steamboat springs and the roads were plowed through by 8am. Road surface was flat and hard, if not icy. I was surprised that my RWD drifted sideways 1-2 ft when making a right-turn, although it quickly corrected. Driving slowly on a circular road was fine...

Michelin Crossclimate2 in snow: as good as putting on tire cables?

I got this one a while ago and have forgotten it's in my subtrunk! Gotta remind myself to use it when my car is supercharging.

Michelin Crossclimate2 in snow: as good as putting on tire cables?

Ok, so not wanting to adjust tire pressures several times driving between city and mountain, the ideal cold tire pressure range is 38 psi (comfort) to 42 psi (efficiency) ! The CA Costcos have self-serve air machines that pump to your desired psi. Do you guys also prefer going to Costco to pump...

Michelin Crossclimate2 in snow: as good as putting on tire cables?

Thanks for the tips. I put them into my note folder. Also, as temperatures drop to 30 degrees, my tire pressure is running 41psi while driving on the freeway. I will keep them at this pressure since @Lindenwood suggested that slightly lower pressure offers better traction.

Michelin Crossclimate2 in snow: as good as putting on tire cables?

Thanks all for your tips. I have the Pewag RSS 76 chains sold by Tesla. I also have a portable air pump, but I won't drop my tire pressure if I can otherwise put on chains. If the CC2 is good with 6" unplowed snow + lots of uphill + speed lower than 20mph, that covers the vast majority of...

Michelin Crossclimate2 in snow: as good as putting on tire cables?

My RWD M3 is going to the best ski resorts in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming this season! Anything to pay attention to driving in snow and ice? At what point should I be putting on snow chains? (fyi - CC2 gets the snowflake (3PMSF) symbol normally assigned to snow tires. And reviews compare the...

    Experiences with AAA towing?

Many of our M3s are now going off warranty and losing roadside assistance. Seems like the best alternative to Tesla roadside assistance is AAA towing. But I've heard that it's a pain waiting to get a flatbed tow. Let us know your experiences with AAA flatbed towing and the location of the tow.

90 days warranty on repairs performed under warranty?

My M3 warranty expires this week and I had some recent repairs done. The Tesla service center rep previously told me that those recent repairs carried an additional 1 year warranty. However, the Tesla T&C state: Any Parts or Used Parts repaired or replaced under this Tesla Parts, Body &...

Tesla Vision coming to radar-equipped cars on 2022.24.6

The 24.6 release notes on my car make no mention of Tesla Vision. Either 1, 2, or both 1&2 occurred: 1. Tesla decided that radar+camera still performs better than Tesla vision (in many areas). 2. The memory on HW2.5 cannot fit Tesla vision models. If #2 is is true and Tesla ever manages to fit...

Regenerative braking setting in V. 2022.16.1.1

Has anyone noticed that their car is now regenerating more slowly in normal conditions? I find myself having to press my brakes in situations where my car should have regenerated to a stop earlier. (My M3 is always set to max regen via the "Stopping Mode = Hold" setting)

Tesla Vision coming to radar-equipped cars on 2022.24.6

Tesla dropping support for radars is basically throwing in the towel on FSD. Waymo and Cruise can't get to L4 self driving with fancy lidars, radars, and cameras. How is your Tesla going to compare with its dusty lens and poorly calibrated cameras? Do Teslas even have a single set of stereo...
