Why does Tesla suspension suck so bad?

I am running 235/55-18 Pirelli Scorpio Verde LRR 104xl tires on Model 3 Aero wheels on my Y. My Wh/mi over 30k miles is 271 Wh/mi with a lot of that being long distance highway miles at over 75 mph. I am looking at coil overs next. I found a brand called HIRO performance that has complete coil...

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

TPMS on the Model Y are different than the Model 3. $75/ea only from Tesla last I checked

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

They will fit but the tires are too short in diameter by about 1.5”. 28” for the 19” wheels and tires and 26.3” for the stock 18” Aero wheels and tires. That is why I put 235/55x18 tires on the Aero wheels. Taller sidewalk gives exact same diameter as stock Model Y 19” tires & wheels.

    Tesla Powerwall 2 installation location

Here in AZ, I wanted to keep everything out of the sun. Our original inverter install is in our laundry/storage room so it made sense to put the new load center, gateway and powerwalls there too.

    Why even have batteries?

We paid cash for the solar in 2018. I didn’t want to worry about a $550 electric bill for July when we retired. When the opportunity to get 2 Powerwalls presented itself, I jumped on it. Energy rates are only going up! Wife has retired, the past year has devastated my photography business. Just...

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

UPDATE: Our cross country PHX-FL, 6000 mile trip is complete on the 18” wheel/tire combo. 2 passengers, cooler in frunk, luggage, spare tire, jack, impact wrench and miscellaneous in the back. 95% interstate driving at speeds between 75-85 mph (TX is 80 posted) , head winds both directions, no...

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

On the 19” Gemini I was averaging over 275 wH/mi. Brought it down to 256 with the 18” wheel/tire combo

    Why even have batteries?

Things in the AZ desert sun work a little differently. We can be using our A/Cs for over 8 months of the year. Before getting solar in mid-2018 my yearly energy bill was over $3400. Since having solar, my average for the year is under $40. 11.89kW system. Our rates are TOU at either a fixed...

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

I went with the Pirelli Scorpion Verde LRR V rated 235/55-18 to keep the overall diameter as close to the original 19” Gemini wheel/tire combo for speedometer accuracy (.1”difference). After 8k miles on them I am really happy with the road feel, ride and most importantly a 255Wh/mi usage that...

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

I am sure you've seen this, but in most cases these limits are not a factor with my usage including pulling a trailer with less than 3500 lb weight.

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

I purchased a set of used 18” Aero wheels and bought the tires at Discount Tire ( AmericasTire). 235/55-18 Pirelli Scorpion Verde. I will try to do a 70 mph run around Phoenix highway soon.

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

I’ve driven about 1100 miles on the new set up and it is definitely more efficient than the 19s. My Wh/mi has gone from 274 to 250 with even lower numbers on several charges in local/hwy combo driving.

18" Aero wheels and Model Y load limits

I put 18” Model 3 aero wheels on my Model Y today. I used Pirelli Scorpion Verde A/S Plus tires in 235/55-18 XL104 size and rating. Overall height is virtually the same as the Geminis. The ride is much smoother and quieter than the 19” Gemini/Continentals they replaced. In the short distance...
