Blog Tesla Software Update Improves Speed Limit Sign Detection

In upstate NY we have a lot of “End Speed Limit” signs. Ex. End Speed Limit 30. Which means do the State Speed Limit “55”. But the car just reads and registers the number on the sign! Also I drive a lot on State Route 40. And the car sees those signs and adjusts my speed limit to 40! And there...

Info from Tesla - 277v feed to Wall Connector (HPWC) - Which Cars Support It

I used a 7-50R 50amp 5796. It is a 277V 50 amp receptacle and then I built a pig tail that I remove so there is no random dryer plug with 277v laying around. Use it daily. No problems at all. :)

Info from Tesla - 277v feed to Wall Connector (HPWC) - Which Cars Support It

My wishful thinking was hoping it was similar to a laptop computer power supply. If you supply DC instead of AC, it just passes through the rectifier that was going to turn it into DC anyway.

Info from Tesla - 277v feed to Wall Connector (HPWC) - Which Cars Support It

Yes 7-50 NEMA AND ITS LIKE 30% faster then the 208vac that we have as non-residential 3 phase stepped down from 480vac Next I am wondering if DC will pass through and be used or if it will alarm out. Example: battery solar backup

Info from Tesla - 277v feed to Wall Connector (HPWC) - Which Cars Support It

My included Gen 2 is in my girlfriends garage about 90 miles away. Using it at 20amp 120v for 6-7 miles/hr. I’ll try to remember to grab it the next weekend I’m there. That will give the Gen 1 another week of testing. Was getting 24m/hr @208v 32a. My guess is 30-32 m/hr @277v 32a. We will see...

Nice info thanks. Looks like I’m going to install the 7-50 outlet on the wall and build a 7-50 to 14-50 extension cord. With orange and black “NON STANDARD 277VAC” stickers. :)

Thank you for your interest and concern. I am of course being as careful as any electrical worker would be. And based on the information the first poster acquired from Tesla, I decided to experiment. Yes, don’t try this at home kids, I’m a self taught professional. As stated earlier the car...

So, I did it! I bought a s/x mobile charger 40amp on EBay. And at work where we have 480V 3p power, I wired up an outlet 270V 1p+neutral(grey wire on 480v)+GND. Plugged in my Model 3. 42m/hr :) No problem with any it. Everything is purring along. Was getting 31m/hr at 208.
