    Charging the Roadster

There are lots of opinions on this subject, with some of the experts contradicting each other. I generally agree with the theory (suggested above by X.l.r.8, gregd and others) that it's best to strike a balance between efficiency and keeping heat generated to a minimum. Testing has revealed that...

Found a roadster charger on ebay (mislabeled UMC Gen1)

Cool! I look forward to seeing what you find! Let me know if you need help with the disassembly.

Found a roadster charger on ebay (mislabeled UMC Gen1)

No. That's not an adapter. It's a custom made mobile charging cable. Someone built that by cobbling together a Model S UMC (first gen) with a Roadster connector. If they did a good job then it would be a nice 40A charger. That's a big "if". I would have some concerns about it as follows. Where...

Yellen's idea to tax unrealized capital gains

There is no proposal. The title of this thread is also wrong. Yellen never had any idea for taxing unrealized capital gains. In the interview she was asked by Sen. Ron Wyden about a potential proposal and all she said was she would consider it. What else could she say? She's never made any...

    You make a good point.

Yellen's idea to tax unrealized capital gains

It's pretty obvious that the government is entitled to raise tax revenue to pay for the services they provide. Far more "entitled" and "greedy" are the people who don't want to pay their fair share for our democratic society to exist. We may argue about how that's done, but few people would...

Yellen's idea to tax unrealized capital gains

What did those boomers' kids do to deserve the money from their successful parents? The only thing they've done is be born into the right family. What about the kids who weren't raised by boomers with money? If they work just as hard, get a good education and otherwise make good choices, why is...

Yellen's idea to tax unrealized capital gains

The tax is levied on the estate which means it comes out of the money and property that would otherwise be distributed to the beneficiaries (heirs). So in effect the heirs do pay the tax.

Yellen's idea to tax unrealized capital gains

I agree that removing the step-up in basis is problematic and a strong estate tax is a much better approach. The estate tax is effectively a tax levied on the income to the heirs of the estate. It's not a tax on the decedent (who is dead at that point). From that perspective it's not possible...

Yellen's idea to tax unrealized capital gains

tl; dr summary: The estate tax is not double taxation, It is the most economically efficient tax that we currently assess, and is arguably the most fair. Most of what you've heard about it from politicians is probably not true. When you consider that the vast majority of assets in most taxable...

My trunk has a mind of its own - opens randomly

Good idea. I'll take a look at the emergency release tonight. We got a software update last night so I'm waiting to see if that makes a difference. But I'm starting to think like you are that it's an electrical issue, not software. Some of my friends I wouldn't put it past them! But we have no...

My trunk has a mind of its own - opens randomly

This problem is getting worse. Yesterday it opened several times while driving. It's completely random. The app is not open on the phone. Two days ago it opened while I was in the supermarket. When I got back to the car with the wide-open trunk, I loaded my groceries in and shut it firmly. Then...

My trunk has a mind of its own - opens randomly

The trunk on our 2018 Model 3 recently started some odd behavior. Usually about once a day, some days more often, it will randomly open on its own. Sometimes it does it while driving but usually the car is parked. It doesn't seem to matter whether you're near the car or not, whether it's locked...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

I assume they gave you a J1772 charger and adapter (Tesla's J1772 adapter was marked "70 AMP"). You can use the adapter at most common J1772 stations but they are generally not very powerful. Most are 30A. Some of them don't work with a Roadster such as the new NRG stations, most ChargePro, and...
