About
After a test drive of the Nissan LEAF at the SF Auto Show in November 2010 and discovering what a fun, surprisingly-roomy little vehicle it was, I wanted to drive electric!! Unfortunately, I also discovered that the waiting list was already closed, so I immediately jumped on the reservation list for the still-under-development Model S instead. Then in May 2011, I found out that I could take home an orphaned LEAF immediately despite the waiting list (for a premium) and enjoy it while still waiting for the Model S. Awesome! Driving electric!
When I finally had the opportunity to test drive the Model S in the summer of 2012, I found it was certainly fast but I was disappointed to confirm what a huge, heavy vehicle it is (and feels like). Definitely not my style. So... Roadster was way too small and Model S way too big, at least on the outside. (Ironically it's a little cramped in head and legroom. I'm 6'4".) So a few months later, with prodding from Tesla, I cancelled my reservation.
Thus the wait began for a reasonably-sized, sporty, fun, all-wheel-drive hatchback with hopefully 300+ miles range. In the meantime, I switched to a Toyota RAV4 EV (a "half Tesla") in October 2013 and had even more fun enjoying the much more useful range (125 miles) as compared to my old LEAF. Boy, did Tesla goose this little SUV. And under $35K, after Toyota incentives!
In September 2018, I took delivery of my "reasonably-sized, sporty, fun, all-wheel-drive (d'oh, no hatchback) and 300+ miles range" in the form of a Tesla Model 3 (“stealth” Performance version) Yay!
In July 2020, I finally got that hatchback in the form of a Model Y (also “stealth” Performance) Now I just have to work up the willpower to sell my Model 3 and give up that low-slung driving-on-rails feel of the Model 3. (It’s not the same in the Model Y.)Interact
