I also bought the R3 from KalTire when I first got my M3. Now I would probably go with the X-Ice because the Hakkapeliitta R3s are just too loud especially since I still drive around quite a bit in the winter and the roads are fairly clean in Toronto to put up with the noise.

Small update since the last time I posted. My rated range is now up to 499.3 km (310 miles). I'm wondering how close I can get to 520km that the long range battery is supposed to be rated at.

What I ended up doing to prevent that is buying some black silicone and closing off the top so no more sand/salt can get in.

I ended up going to Noble (HVAC store). They carry this Nu Calgon Evap Foam No Rinse for $17. One bottle should last quite a while, only used 1/3 of a can. Though it’s an aerosol that changes into foam so not exactly the same as kool-it.
