    Power outage question

It is not that the cme would cause the surge protector to fail, but rather that the cme pulse would travel faster than the ability of the surge protector to react. And that an added layer of protection would be to disconnect and shut down the electronic device. Not to say that this would avoid...

    Power outage question

I fully grasp the scope of your argument, but when considering the broad range of events, including lightning as well as everything else mentioned, it surely affords greater protection to disconnect and deactivate than it does to maintain continuous service when unnecessary. And I sincerely...

    Power outage question

Again, to use the lightning analogy, there is quite a substantial range of effects, ranging from massive to nil, depending upon distance and stregnth of source. It is by no means an all or nothing proposition, and it is a given that some electronics will be far more susceptible to damage than...

    Power outage question

No doubt a sufficient emp would have that effect, just as a sufficient lightning strike would overcome other protections. But a lesser degree of solar CME strike might be resisted by simply having the unit deactivated and reducing the quantity of wire feeding into it. And it would not be an...

    Power outage question

Have that in place already. That will handle ordinary utility surges, but not the more exotic variety, such as emp.

    Power outage question

Shutting it down would minimize potential damage to equipment from a power surge coming from the grid. If Powerwall is used for outages only, it seems unnecessary to have it continuously connected.

    Power outage question

Let's assume that we have grid tied powerwall connected to a solar system. The powerwall is fully charged, but it is turned off at the power switch, and also shut down at the circuit breaker. Now, in the middle of the night, there is a power outage. The owner turns on the circuit breaker, and...

    Arizona Powerwall Installs

Highly recommend that you mount inside garage on wall to prolong life of battery. Avoid stacking the Powerwalls one in front of the other if you have the wall space to place them side by side on wall with base on the floor and with good separation to allow for proper ventilation, mine are 18"...

Any experience with North East facing solar panels in NJ/NY?

Have you considered that there are flush mounted modules that really would not detract from the appearance? And also, in a few months the Tesla solar roof will most likely be available in your area, and that is something worth waiting for.

    Firmware 1.20.0

The alternative is not good either----prevent the upgrade, and then have your warranty reduced from 10 years to 4. There has got to be a better way than this, especially considering that the Powerwall has no monitoring equipment attached to the unit itself, unlike Sonnen or any other battery...

    Firmware 1.20.0

One of the best features of the Powerwall is the ability to access state of charge info directly from the WiFi, without having to go through the internet, which at times does go down. So when you get upgraded to 1.20.0, chances are you will soon lose all ability to access the Powerwall...

    Powerwall 2 Green LED Malfunction

Has anyone else experienced this problem...................the Powerwall is shut off at its switch, and also shut off at the circuit breaker panel, but the green led status indicator remains illuminated as a steady light, indicating that the battery is on and that it is communicating with Tesla...

    Powerwall & homeowner's insurance

Just wondering if anyone has experienced any difficulties with their insurance companies, or if their premiums have risen excessively as a result of the install?

    Am I underthinking this?

Thank you Wayne, that is very good news.

    Am I underthinking this?

A quality water cooled commercial grade generator of that size, such as a Kohler, would cost around $19,000 installed. The 4 Powerwalls would be around $26,000, with the tax credit bringing final cost to about $18,000. Not such a bad deal. Does anyone know if the battery tax credit applies...
