No, it isn't a limitation on the MCU1. There are plenty of MCU1 cars out there with 2021.40 software, even older ones with Autopilot 1. On Teslafi, over 30% of AP1 cars are on 2021.40 software. It is a limitation on the configuration of MCU1 and FSD updates from AP2.5 to AP3 hardware. So few...

I would give up the fluffware if I could just turn off the Autopilot nag and get the streaming service to save my last position when I restart the car.

Being a good chip designer doesn't make you a subject matter expert on all possible programming and computer science algorithms that run on your chip.

I'm pretty sure this also solves the problem of drivers casually falling asleep with Autopilot engaged.

I have the same problem. Dash cam used to work fine until update to 2019.8.3. Can't get the gray x to go away, no matter how many times I reformat and re-create the TeslaCam folder.

Off topic, but if I want to eventually root my Model S, should I refuse the latest updates? Right now I am at 1018.50.6. Will the new updates close off all the means of rooting the MCU?
