Having just returned from a factory tour; I can confirm it takes a good 5 days to complete a Model S. What I don't know is how precise the "My Tesla" status notices are (i.e. could there be a lag between start of actual production and the website notification that your car has started...- Justinn

Since Tesla doesn't build in VIN order, we would have needed help from the manufacturing guys to find my car on the line. There are about 700 cars in various stages of production at any given time and while I saw a couple candidates; I have no idea if one of them was mine. My status changed to...- Justinn

After about 500 page refreshes; my status changed today to; "In Production - The Tesla Factory is building your Model S".
