is model S quieter than Lexus

Part of the problem is Tesla's hatchback design, which could never insulated the cabin from noise coming from the bottom rear area (where most of my Tesla's noise seems to emulate from) as well as my Lexus LS could since there are openings between the trunk and cabin areas. But I don't think...

is model S quieter than Lexus

Haven't driven a RX400, but it is certainly far quieter than my wife's RX350. However, I drove a LS430 for a number of years before I bought my Tesla and I would have to say that Lexus was quieter. Despite a V8 engine, what the Lexus engineers have done in terms of soundproofing is magnificent...

Surprised myself. I think the 85D is actually the best value (over 70D and P85D)

I agree wholeheartedly with JMG's comments. I considered it, and the extra money for the P85D would have been immaterial to me once I had decided to buy, but the extra range of the 85D for me trumped the extra acceleration, given certain trips I regularly make and the climate where I live. Now...

Looking for community input on Model S Options

@slevit1md - your thought process sounds just like mine was. Despite how fun the P85D can be, I realized there was probably going to be far more times I really appreciated the extra range of the 85D than I would actually floor a P85D it from a standing start. Sure, I would do it a few times when...

Looking for community input on Model S Options

Yes, if an analysis of the range you require (factoring in some degradation over time and cold weather effect, if applicable) shows that the 70D will offer more than enough travel distance, then I think it is by far the best value, with or without the pano roof - and pretty much all other...

Looking for community input on Model S Options

Just for fun, I'll add a few of my own comments. Pano: I'd be lying if I said it didn't add a little to cabin heat, but I don't think it is much. I love it mainly for the additional headroom (I have a 6 foot 5 son and I'm pretty sure the non-Pano roof would have been a bit of a problem for him...

    New 7 series bimmer v Model S

I have to agree that the hand gestures seem like a bizarre and slightly pointless idea. A weird party trick to show someone else in the car (when they actually work well) but I can't imagine ever using them regularly. There is obviously a good reason BMW is releasing the new 7 series in China...

    New 7 series bimmer v Model S

There is no question the BMW 7 series is a great car. And yes, technologically it is miles ahead of a Tesla, with the exception of the drivetrain of course. I've never owned a BMW (have never been crazy about their styling) but have owned several other luxury cars, all costing more or less what...

    85D vs P85D

I don't think you would regret getting either one. I initially was convinced I wanted the P85D (so I would have "the best" and wouldn't regret not stepping up) but I eventually decided the increased range of the 85D was more important to me. Honestly, I would have only performed the insane...

    Leathergate for new P85D orders

Yes, it definitely seems like P85D buyers pay twice for alcantara under the newest price book. With a S85D on order, I'm a bit miffed that the combined price of the tech and premium packages on the newest price book is less than I paid for the old tech package plus alcantara, but presumably...

Tesla still delivers cars with moisture in reverse light housing!

I thought of a tiny hole as well, but what I am afraid of is the water that could enter the assembly through it - while it would evaporate it could leave behind dirt that entered with it, so over time you would have a dirt build-up in the light that would be very difficult to clean.

Guess A Tesla isn't in the cards for me, this time around

Good choice. Don't question your decision at all. Given your driving habits if this would be your primary vehicle, it isn't right for you. It is easy for all the Tesla enthusiasts to praise the merits of a Tesla and proclaim it is the best car on the market, but it will not work for everybody...
