An update on the Model S years ago broke the heated steering wheel. Nothing about the HVAC or steering wheel or anything related was an obvious part of the patch. That's what set off alarm bells for me. There was clearly not any kind of regression testing. That's minimal development process...

It doesn't hurt to ask. I've requested that the loaded update NOT be installed and put a note on the screen saying not to update. The service person asked why, and I said I didn't want the GUI changes. They serviced the car without updating. However, that was years and years ago.

There is this: Hong Kong removes autopilot. Of course, the US/Canada isn't Hong Kong, but it shows that when a government wants an update, they will force it. Plus, I know I've had an update forced after dismissing updates for years, and other people swear by the same. Sure, it's not hard...

They can and probably will force the update. I believe they did that in Hong Kong a few years back, but I don't recall the details. I've had updates applied that I am 100% sure I didn't approve.

It's probably not the best option, but the 100 kWh batteries do reportedly retain their original charging speeds. Of course, Tesla could nerf that in the future.
