    200 vs 400amp service

One point to add is that it's not only the extra amps I'm getting - it's the space in the panels as well. I have a lot of 240v hookups (11) that will not fit on a single panel with the rest of the 120v so I would have to add a sub panel anyways. The extra amps is just icing.

    200 vs 400amp service

Yeah - the panel will be in the 3rd car garage and I'm already dropping lines to the 2 car garage were we'll park. It's a 1 story too so dropping lines in the future shouldn't be too difficult.

    200 vs 400amp service

Yeah - I'm running 1 100 amp line to one spot in the garage and a 50 amp line to the other side. The breaker box is in the 3rd car garage so it will be an easy add if we ever want to put anther one in there.

Yup - mines a ‘13 with dual chargers. Wasn’t aware that the new ones were unadjustable.

    Charging automation IFTTT

Does anyone know of any sort of charging automation that could be triggered though IFTTT? My electricity rates adjust on 5 minute intervals and would like to trigger charging when rates drop below a certain threshold.

    200 vs 400amp service

Thanks all for your input. I'm going to go with the 400 amps. I agree that I don't need the capacity today but I expect to have at least 4 EVs in the future (wife and kids). It's a fairly sizable house with a pool, electric oven, 5 refrigerators, etc. so for $600 its more of a future proof...

    200 vs 400amp service

I can dial it down to draw whatever amps I want to pull from inside the car. I only pull the 80amps when I need to charge quickly.

Wowzers. Can I ask why you need to upgrade?

    200 vs 400amp service

Thanks for the response. I’m already running into issues with the whole home standby generator and the two panels but I think we found a workaround would just putting everything on one of the panels and going with a 200 amp ATS.

    200 vs 400amp service

It’s going to be 2 200amp panels which I’m already running into complications with a generator I’m wanting to put in. I’m going to have to put all the critical circuits on one of the panels.

The size of the wire Coming to the house should be more. But they said it wasn’t so I’m just gonna go with it.

    200 vs 400amp service

Great advice- I live in TX and have the ability to purchase electricity at wholesale rates. It’s TOU and rates often go to 0 or even negative at night.

    200 vs 400amp service

Thanks - builder said he talked to the electric company and they don’t charge extra for the service. I find that hard to believe but I’m going to move forward and see what happeneds.

    200 vs 400amp service

Hi all - just wanted to get some opinions about the service to a new home we are building. Standard is 200amp service but I can upgrade to 400amp for $600. It’s a no brained right? I have a HPWC and my S85 has dual chargers so I will be pulling down 80 amps (on occasion). Other car is an ICE...
