SMS from Tesla re delivery and the virus

All fine and dandy until the hospital system is overwhelmed and you need some medical attention - whether related to COVID19 or not. This is at least 10x more dangerous than the flu according to every doctor and health official talking about it, and according to the WHO is approximately twice as...

    Powerwall Gateway

The powerwall keeps the solar running for as long as possible and charges itself with any excess. You need the battery to be able to absorb any excess from the solar and provide enough if the house load is more than the solar is producing. If, for arguement’ s sake the battery was depleted and...

    Powerwall Gateway

No, for that to work you need a battery of some description. The Solar inverters are designed specifically to follow the grid - not to generate one - and as such rely on it being present. You also need some way to absorb/fill gaps between solar production and the house load, which is where the...

Spotted in Australia and New Zealand

To be honest, when I started this thread 5 years ago I didn’t expect it to last this long

Would you, could you drive a ICE again?

As a daily driver? No. As an occasional fun thing? Maybe. My wife’s convertible 2.8l Z3 is fun to drive albeit slow, loud and clunky compared to the S. Looking for when there is a small convertible fun car to replace it with for her - but I still like old muscle cars etc. Not so much any more...

    Supercharger - Richmond VIC

Not really considering the best place for superchargers is actually on the open roads on long trips. If you are stopped for more than a couple of hours then a 22kW AC charger is just as effective and can be installed for about $2k including wiring. If you are staying at a hotel or whatever then...

    [Australia] Electricity Bills

I have my car on a controlled load circuit that is at around 16c before discount and is energised pretty well all of the time other than between 5-10pm. Since I'm getting 12.5c export I don't really worry about the 3.5c difference and just let the car charge overnight when I get home.

    Maps with no mobile coverage

If you have already entered in the destination the nav keeps working but the map doesn't update details until you get back into a coverage area. I've found that the car's reception has been pretty good overall though, albeit with some blackspots where neither the car nav nor my mobile phone work.

Request to enable DAB+ - Interested?

Top be honest the addition of DAB+ radio probably doesn’t add that much to the car. I don’t listen to AM or FM any more and just use the built-in TuneIn radio to listen to radio stations using the cars internet connection. I’ve found that DAB+ reception is pretty limited, whereas the internet...

    Model 3 Charging in Australia

Is that with 'rated' or 'typical' set as the display - makes a huge difference.

?Drop off of rate of charge at Supercharger St Leonards

To be honest I only supercharge on long trips because my time is worth more than the $8-10 per week and I can charge at home. I'll look at it next time I head down to Canberra.

?Drop off of rate of charge at Supercharger St Leonards

I haven't supercharged since the last update but note that my 90% charge is consistently at 344-345 typical on my S85 which is the same vintage as yours. Have you tried to supercharge at another location - ie one that isn't 5km from your home?

    Supercharger - Wendouree (Ballarat) VIC

Just because it has CCS2 doesn’t mean it’s a 250kW charger. It’s just so that the M3 can charge there.
