Your recollection is wrong. Even the current version does not 'call home'. I strongly suggest you switch to Linux and Open Office though because no matter how you like it, Microsoft is doing what everybody is doing and making their software most connected. Like Tesla, you could say...;)

Imagine me growing up in a time without safety wall outlets. These days all plugs in Europe are protected with sliding bits of plastic that most of the time refuse to slide.

Depending on the connection it can take up to 15 minutes. Seems faster the second time you use it the same day but the next day it is slow again. Seems much faster on wifi so it could be this has a low priority over LTE

If the car is ONLY on wifi it can often totally fail.
