I definitely would and just decrease the max charge to something lower than my normal 80%

Just change visualization to percent (from mileage) to help avoid the constant mileage estimate checking. In all long trips I've never had issues with the Tesla UI mapping and Better Route Planner (mainly to ensure I arrive at the destination with a certain amount of charge)

I use Valet mode when I took MY in for tinting since you can enable and disable from the mobile app. It locks down a lot of features and you can provide a top speed. PIN to drive unlocks everything including home address, and other features hidden in Valet mode.
