I just picked mine up a few weeks ago. According to the folks at the service center, the new windshield started around Thanksgiving of 2016. I don't use a radar detector... I can't think of many times during my 15 years in Miami when there's been light enough traffic to speed. :)

I received 1.99 from TD Bank via Tesla just yesterday for delivery next week.

For what it's worth, I ordered on Dec. 19, and mine hasn't entered production yet. My official window is "late February-March," and my DS thinks it will probably be built this week and delivered the week of Feb. 27, maybe a hair sooner.

There's a great Google spreadsheet maintained by the community that has all this information. You can add your own data point, and there's also a tab that calculates averages and estimates. For domestic delivery, the average is 3.81 days from production beginning to ending, and then 9.73 days...

My understanding is that the MS manufactured before fall 2016 required this kind of acrobatics... there was a smallish rectangle of windshield that was "clear" for RFID signals. But the folks at my Tesla shop said it will now work anywhere on windshield. Again, I can't personally vouch for this...
