Could the P85D Ludicrous faster than P90D Ludicrous because of weight of the battery?

The 90 and 85 kWh packs weigh exactly the same and they both have 7104 cells. The improvement is because of energy density increase. Elon explained this during the conference call. Listen from 8:39 Tesla Motors Ludicrous Mode Press Conference (Audio) 2015-07-17 - YouTube 8m39s Elon Musk: "We...

    Thoughts on Model 3 Design

The interesting thing about Model 3 is that, it is likely to have higher drag coefficient than the 0.24 Model S achieves. If the Model 3 could be a 90% scaled version of Model S, then it would have the same 0.24 drag coefficient. However that's not possible because the headroom needs to stay the...

Supercharging Hypothetical #3 -- Inappropriate or not?

I voted A. I think the poll would have been better with just two options. Now you have A+B+C competing against D. If the results are 20% each for A,B,C and 40% for D, then it will appear like most people say it is fine which is incorrect because 60% voted inappropriate. This is not just about...

The big unknown: Will gen 3 be delivered on time?

During a conference call Elon said they have two versions in mind for Model 3. One has a more radical design and the other a more traditional design. He said they will probably go with the traditional design and make it more like a smaller version of Model S to avoid delays. I think that's a...

Aston Martin entering the P90D Luda market....in ~2017

As a British company I think they are referring to the European NEDC rated range. EPA range is not used outside North America. In Europe the S85 rated range is 502km NEDC (311 mi). 200 mi NEDC would be 200/311= 64% of S85's range = 170 EPA rated range = 95 miles less EPA rated range

Out of juice - battery issue, UI issue, or user mistake?

When EPA certifies the range, they do it for the window sticker. To sell a car in the US, the manufacturer needs to certify the range and show that in the window sticker and any sales advertisement. (side note: Tesla was fined for selling the Roadster without an EPA certified range.) However EPA...

How Long Till Solar Powered Car?

I voted never too. Solar panels are about 20-25% efficient. Even if that increases to 100%, it wouldn't be enough to make a regular car because cars are heavy and they need wide tires and all that creates lots of rolling resistance. You could make a single seater lightweight vehicle that rides...
