Tesla will never offer such an upgrade for already sold cars; for the same reason they will never offer a battery upgrade: they want to sell new cars. I was asking to see if it was possible to create such an upgrade card independently. If it brings MCU performance on par with Model 3, I am sure...

But is it possible? What would the CPU for such an upgrade be? And would it work with the rest of the MCU (without a firmware update that would require Tesla's support)? What would be the total cost to manufacture such an upgrade board?

Be advised that the free unlimited supercharging may end after April 30th. Even if you don't plan on driving long distances a lot, the peace of mind of not having to worry about how much it costs when you do is, in my opinion, priceless.

Of those 86 kWh, only 81.8 are actually usable. The 100 battery, on the other hand, is bigger than advertised (102.4 kWh with 98.4 usable); which means it has pretty much exactly 20% more capacity. That should safely give you 15% more real world range.

Gah! I don't really care about the _absolute_ capacity of any of the packs. What I care about is that the 100D has 20% more capacity than the 90D, rather than just 11%. Because that's enough reason for me to upgrade.

I concur! Still, I take 82 kWh net capacity on a '90' pack as a fact. @wk057 actually took apart a battery pack, down to the cell level, and then multiplied back up to arrive at total capacity. I just can't find it anymore :( But I found this instead! 102.4 kWh total capacity / 98.4 kWh usable...
