    Interesting finding about Range Mode

@David99, I think you are mistaken. In cold temperatures with range mode _on_, the car will not use the battery heater to heat the battery. With range mode _off_, it will use the battery heater to get the temperature up to a certain point. Hence the wasted energy for short trips, where you will...

    Interesting finding about Range Mode

I use range mode in winter (at least when it's below freezing) when driving short distances. This is mainly to reduce the energy spent to warm up the battery, as there will be no benefit of spending energy to warm up the battery pack slightly just before parking. Lack of regen is good as it...

Early autopilot safety data. Tesla’s Autopilot lowers probability of having an accident by 50%

You have to consider that AP will only drive in good conditions, and will require the human to take control when there's any doubt. No wonder the accident rates are lower when conditions are good.

Autopilot fatigue reduction on long drives - initial reports?

Wow, many pilots here on the forum. GA pilot (VFR) and former Cessna owner from Norway here. The total cost of operating that aircraft will be much larger than the car, but then again flying is more fun than driving... I used to commute by air (but a route which is under 300 km by car) on a...

Vampire drain while plugged in normal?

Yes, it's normal. The car will recharge the battery after it has decreased a bit, and top it off.

Idea: Vampire drain is partly battery pack balancing?

That may be the case. SOC was around 35% when I parked.

Idea: Vampire drain is partly battery pack balancing?

I got thinking about vampire drain, and observed my car getting less and less drain after sitting for a while with a quite low SOC. Earlier posts have mentioned no active balancing hardware, but the possibility of "bleeding off" the higher voltage packs through resistors. So maybe the higher...
