Each year Morgan Stanley surveys their summer interns to see how the next generation views the world. Here are their results related to the auto industry this year. The results won't necessarily be a shocker to the people here, but they are probably eye opening to others. The world be changing.

If anyone wants a perspective from the Street, read Morgan Stanley's initial thoughts on the results before the call. The drop after hours is due to the gross margin (ex ZEV) miss. 20.7% actual vs. consensus of 24.2%.

Oppenheimer raised their price target by largely increasing their multiple but wrote about FSD to justify it. Nothing concrete in their model yet with autonomy but something to look for in the mid term. Deutsche Bank also raised their price target on higher multiples in their Q4 Autos preview...

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are sandbagging or playing other games. For example, it’s common knowledge in the industry that underwriting analysts on new IPOs sandbag numbers for the company’s benefit. But it’s common for analysts to adjust their estimates a few times per quarter.

Here is the Wedbush note. Dan Ives was previously forecasting only 2 million vehicle deliveries in 2030. That has now been increased to 5.5 million.

Credit Suisse raises their price target from $400 to $800, maintains Neutral rating. They expand their model to 2030, forecasting 5.1 million units. For 2021, they are forecasting 853,000 deliveries. For 2022, 1.1 million. Bull case price target goes to $1,450.
