Well, someone (SteveWin1, and apologies for putting basically the same post in two different threads) did some analysis of the VIN's registered and if it were a software limitation they'd just be producing both concurrently... but the data seems to suggest that it's the same line building either...

We added an item for P-AWD and included the 20" config too for that. Going to publish it to the Performance waiting list on the Tesla forums too, might as well since the two configurations are being delivered concurrently apparently and more data is more better.

Can't seem to edit my post but there's someone who was a line waiter, didn't order until last week, and already has a NP AWD VIN. Reservation system appears to be working as intended.

Based on the AWD deliveries (P and NP both), that's going to come back to bite them. At least till now, nobody but Day 1 and *one* single Day 2 person on the Tesla forums in their waiting rooms has gotten a VIN yet. That's it, and it goes without saying that current deliveries have been line...

That's what I'm going to do as well, for me it may not be until October or November until I receive the car anyway (NP AWD, white interior, go me with the 1/30/17 reservation date, though at least it's Blue and not OBM haha). I'd heard of Concours previously and was looking to do this there...

Switched to white; didn't get an email though read about it on the Tesla forums is the only way I would've known about it. Saw a few other people did too but I don't think it's going to be a landslide shift to white interiors regardless of the current "marketing" of apparently shipping...

Tesla may or may not pull a credit report themselves: since they aren't financing there isn't that much need to do so but they might in order to socialize the app to their various lending partners... there's no captive lender in the Tesla model. Whoever they farm it out to, will indeed pull...
